Sperm Microinjection (ICSI)

This technique, described by Lazendorf in 1988, consists of the introduction of a sperm into the egg cytoplasm.

The first published pregnancy using this technique dates back to 1992. At CEFIVA we have been developing ICSI since 1995 and to date, thousands of children have been born all over the world as a result of this technique.

Recorte ICSI

With this technique, it has been possible to resolve cases of male sterility due to large alterations in the semen parameters (low number, very poor motility, high percentage of abnormal sperm), where IVF was not indicated, and has even resolved cases of males who had sperm inside the testicle but not in the ejaculate because of obstruction of the sperm ducts.

The phases of ICSI are the same as IVF as regards stimulation and egg retrieval.

Ovocito en Metafase II

After processing the semen sample and selecting the sperm, these are placed in a microdrop with a highly viscous solution (Polyvinylpyrrolidone) which slows down the movement of the sperm and allows them to be easily recovered.

The eggs are placed in microdrops and a sperm is then microinjected into the inside of each egg.

Once the microinjection has been done, the eggs are placed in culture media in an incubator at 37ºC and 5-6% of CO2. The remaining phases are identical to those of IVF.
